High school sweethearts, Alexia and Nicholas met when they were 16, started dating, then went to prom together. Now, following a beautiful, multicultural orthodox wedding day, these two are happily married newlyweds.
Initially, they planned a big event for 250 guests. As Alexia explains, with a “Greek marrying a Congolese/Russian, [it] could not be anything but large.” COVID-19 nixed that idea, though. To meet public gathering rules at the time, they were limited to 50 people at the reception and 150 people at the church. Though small by their standards, the life-changing occasion was nonetheless very special. “Our day was absolutely magical,” the bride notes.
She describes the celebration as “an Orthodox Crowning Ceremony,” adding,
“We pulled traditions from all of our cultures … to create a beautiful multicultural orthodox wedding.” Highlights included a uniquely beautiful orthodox service that combined both greek and russian traditions, as well as an “absolutely angelic” church choir, directed by Nic’s dad. Even the bridalwear and décor had personal significance. As Alexia mentions, “My grandmother was the seamstress” for the bridal party, as well as the mothers of the bride and groom.
“She hemmed and fixed all our dresses perfectly.” As for décor, the bride and her bridesmaids DIYed the centrepieces, signs and invitations.
The look was modern rustic, the colour palette for the day was wood, gold and navy, and the result was, well, perfect. “Everything was perfect, from getting ready to end of night.”
