At the beginning, we couldn’t fathom not having the big day we both dreamed of,” recalls Véronique of her fall 2020 wedding. She and Joël had intended to host over 250 guests, but due to COVID-19 they switched plans three times leading up to their celebration. By the time the date arrived, their reception hall had closed its doors and their church was limited to 30 per cent of its capacity. As a result, just closest family members and friends attended the ceremony and only 25 people gathered at the makeshift reception hall they created in their garage.
In the end, though, the numbers were just right for a picture-perfect micro celebration. The bride and groom were dazzling in their finery, the bridal party and rustic chic wedding design were striking in burgundy, navy and gold, and the fall colours made for a spectacular backdrop. Still, Véronique identifies the intimacy of the reception “with only our immediate family, our wedding party, and our closest friends” as the highlight of the day. Fittingly, the theme was COVID can’t stop LOVE.
Looking back, she and Joël are grateful to have been surrounded by the most important people in their lives and to have felt that love. The significance “truly made our wedding that much more memorable.”
Now that it’s a happy memory, the newlyweds have some advice: “We strongly encourage couples to go ahead with their wedding during this pandemic, [whether or not] it means altering their original plans. We do not regret anything about our special day even if we only had our immediate family with us …. We are currently planning on having a “Part Two” reception in October, but if we still can’t because of pandemic guidelines, we will be completely at peace with having our only celebration in October of 2020.”
